Shimmy and Shine 2024 marked the third edition of the festival, and the second consecutive year on the Main Stage of Smock Alley Theatre. This time, however, everything felt bigger more dancers, a larger audience, and a stronger sense of growth. With that growth came greater responsibility, but when things are done with love, dedication, and purpose, everything finds its way.
This year, the energy in the theatre was truly special. Our dancers invited friends and family to be part of the experience, filling the space with warmth, support, and genuine excitement. That collective presence created an atmosphere that carried us through the night and made the event even more meaningful.
For this edition, we also took a very special step by collaborating with atelier Marrie Campos, from Brazil, who lovingly created our costumes. Each piece was made with care, artistry, and attention to detail and they were absolutely beautiful. Marrie travelled to Ireland to deliver them personally, making the moment even more special for all of us.
Once again, we had the honour of welcoming my mother, Flávia Mollica, as our special guest of the night. Having her presence, support, and artistic legacy with us for another year was deeply moving. I don’t even need to say how incredible the night was it spoke for itself.
Shimmy and Shine 2024 was a celebration of growth, community, love, and trust. A reminder that when art is built together, with heart and intention, it becomes something truly unforgettable.
