Shimmy and Shine 2019

This was my first Belly Dance festival in Ireland.I remember feeling nervous, apprehensive, and deeply hopeful that everything would come together as I had dreamed. Bringing a festival to life in a new country was a big step, filled with responsibility, emotion, and countless unseen challenges.

The event took place at The Boys School at Smock Alley Theatre, in a smaller and more intimate space which made the experience even more meaningful. And everything worked out beautifully. The festival exceeded my expectations and became an unforgettable evening, filled with connection, art, and a shared love for dance.

One of the most emotional moments for me was being able to bring my mother to Ireland for the first time. Seeing her watch a project come to life a project that exists because of her, and through her was incredibly special. She was our guest of honour that night, and sharing that moment together is something I will carry with me forever.

I am endlessly grateful to my students, who believed in me, trusted my vision, and stood by my side from the very beginning. Without their support, encouragement, and commitment, this festival would not have been possible.

This first event marked not only a milestone in my journey in Ireland, but also the beginning of something much greater than I could have imagined.
